1.    Introduction

Technology has become an essential part of how people work and learn. It helps people do things that they would not be able to do without it. Also, it assists individuals communicate with each other, entertain themselves, and get information. It also helps people work and live better lives. People would not be able to do any of these things without technology. It is important for people to have it so that they can enjoy their lives and get the most out of them. However, not everyone is familiar with how to use technology to collaborate effectively. This project aims to provide training on how to use technology for collaboration at the University of Wyoming Technical Services Department. The project will include a series of lectures and workshops that will teach participants how to use technology for collaboration, such as using online tools, collaborative software, and social networking sites. The project will also include a review of the best practices for collaboration, such as setting up clear communication goals, creating collaborative work spaces, and using feedback loops to improve collaboration. The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will include a series of lectures and workshops that will teach participants how to use technology for collaboration. The second phase will include the implementation of best practices for collaboration.

1.     Research design

This research paper will use a qualitative approach. The research will use a survey to measure the attitudes and knowledge of participants about collaboration technology. The survey will also measure how well participants are able to use technology for collaboration. It will also use a focus group to explore how participants use technology for collaboration. The research will be conducted in the University of Wyoming Technical Services Department.

1.1.         Research Question

The research question that will be used to guide this study is “is there a need to provide training on how to use technology to collaborate at UWTSD?”

1.2.         Method

Methodology is an important part of any research study. In this research paper, methodology will be divided into data collection methods and analysis methods. The data collection methods that will be used include questionnaires, interviews, and surveys. Questionnaires will be used to measure participants’ attitudes and knowledge about technology for collaboration. The questionnaire will have a mix of closed and open-ended questions. This will guide the participants in answering the questions. Interviews will be used to explore how participants use technology for collaboration. Surveys will be used to measure how well participants are able to use technology for collaboration. The survey will have a mix of closed and open-ended questions. This will help to measure participants’ attitudes and knowledge about technology for collaboration. Once the data has been collected, it will be analyzed using qualitative methods. This methodology will help the researchers to explore participants’ attitudes and beliefs about technology for collaboration, and measure how well the participants are able to use technology for collaboration. The results of the study will help to determine if there is a need to provide training on how to use technology for collaboration at UWTSD.

1.3.         Ethical Considerations

Several ethical considerations will be taken into account when conducting this research. First, the researchers will take into account the participants’ rights and privacy. In any research, the privacy of participants’ data is an important aspect as it ensures that the data is protected (Alwahaby et al., 2022). Second, the researchers will ensure that the research is conducted in a responsible manner. This includes ensuring that any data collected is accurate and confidential. Additionally, the researchers will ensure that the participation is voluntary. No one will be forced to participate in the study, and all participants will have the opportunity to withdraw at any time. The fourth consideration is informed consent. Informed consent is a process by which participants are given information about the study, and have the opportunity to agree or not agree to participate (Alwahaby et al., 2022). If participants do not want to participate in the study, they can withdraw at any time. Lastly, the researchers will adhere to university ethical principles and regulations when conducting this research. These include the UWTSD code of conduct, the Canadian Association of University Teachers’ Guidelines for Ethical Research Involving Human Subjects, and the American Psychological Association’s Principles of Professional Conduct.

  1. Results

This research paper found that there is a lack of collaboration between UWTSD and the surrounding community. The study found that there is a lack of knowledge sharing between the two groups, and that there are few opportunities for collaboration. The researchers further found out that several students did not know how to use some collaboration technologies available at the school. Further, many of the participants who were interviewed reported that they would like to know how to use certain technologies available at the school, but they did not know how.

Therefore, the results of this research will help improve collaboration at UWTSD. They will provide insights into how technology can be used to improve communication and coordination between team members. Additionally, the study will help identify areas of improvement for current communication tools. Based on the above results, the study will provide recommendations for future improvements in team collaboration technology.

3.     Discussion

Collaboration is important in any school. It ensures that students, teachers, and staff are working together to achieve a common goal. However, collaboration can be difficult to achieve in situations where there is a lack of communication between team members. The importance of communication in any institution cannot be overstated as it  is essential for working together as a team. According to Ratheeswari (2018), “effective communication is the bedrock of teamwork.” Therefore, where there is no communication, there is no collaboration, and this will make working together towards a common goal difficult.

The results of this research study suggest that students would benefit from improved collaboration tools. In particular, the participants reported that they would like to know how to use certain technologies available at their school. However, many of the participants did not know how to use these technologies to improve their collaboration skills. One of the main findings from this study is that technology can be used to improve communication and coordination between team members. For example, social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter can be used to share ideas and communicate with team members. Research indicates that social media platforms can be effective communication channel for young people as many of them are already familiar with these platforms (Ratheeswari, 2018). However, it is important to note that social media platforms can also be a source of conflict and distraction for students. Therefore, it is important to use social media platforms cautiously and in a manner that is conducive to collaboration. Additionally, group chat applications like Slack can be used to facilitate communication between team members.

In addition to using technology to improve communication, it is also important for team members to be aware of their communication styles. According to the results of this study, team members who are good at communicating with others may find it difficult to communicate effectively when working in a group setting. This is due to the fact that good communicators are typically good at taking input and feedback from others. However, when communicating in a group setting, team members may struggle to take this input and feedback. Additionally, team members who are good at taking input and feedback from others may find it difficult to give this type of feedback (Kyaw et al., 2019). Therefore, it is important for team members to be aware of their communication styles and to adjust their behavior accordingly. Another way technology can be used to improve collaboration is in the form of software. For example, tools like Microsoft OneNote can be used to document ideas and conversations. This would allow team members to access this information later on, which can be helpful in keeping the conversation organized. Additionally, tools like Dropbox can be used to share files and collaborate on projects. This would allow team members to easily access the information they need without having to search through different folders (DeVito, 2019). The results further indicates that there is need for training of the students on how to use different technologies. New technologies keep on coming to the market and it is important that the students are well versed with using them.

Strategies for the Implementation of the Training Program

Several strategies can be applied to train the students at UWTSD on how to use technologies to collaborate.  One such strategy is to have a technology session once a month in which different technologies are used to facilitate collaboration (Ahmadi & Reza, 2018). During the technology sessions, students can learn how to use different tools and platforms for collaborative purposes. Additionally, online resources can be used to facilitate the learning process. Online resources have been found to speed the learning process whenever used, and therefore, they will be used at UWTSD. Some of the main online resources that would be applicable for this training program include YouTube, TED Talks and WikiHow (Ahmadi & Reza, 2018). YouTube would be used by the department to provide short video clips on different technologies that can be used for collaborative purposes. TED Talks would be used as a medium to provide long-form presentations on different technologies, which would help students to learn more about the different features and advantages of the technologies. WikiHow would be used to provide step-by-step instructions on how to use different tools and platforms for collaborative purposes (Koupaee & Wang, 2018). Another strategy for training the students on how to use technologies for collaboration is to have a Technology Orientation session once a semester. The Technology Orientation session would provide an overview of different technologies and how to use them for collaborative purposes. Additionally, the session would also highlight different tools and platforms that are available for collaborative purposes. The Technology Orientation session would be beneficial for students who are new to using technology for collaboration. Lastly, workshops can be conducted on specific technologies that are used for collaboration. For example, a workshop on Google Docs could be conducted to educate students on how to use Google Docs for collaborative purposes. The workshops would provide an overview of the features and functions of the technology and how to best use it for collaboration. The workshops would be beneficial for students who are already familiar with the technology and want to learn more about using it for collaboration.

Challenges that May be Encountered during Training Program

During the implementation of the proposed training program, several challenges will be encountered.  The first challenge is the availability of resources. The school may not have some resources that will be required for training, and this will pose a problem. For example, the school may not have a computer that is suitable for using YouTube. The second challenge is the time required to complete the training program. It will be difficult to find enough time to complete the program in a short period of time. The third challenge is the difficulty in coordinating and integrating different training programs. Different training programs may have different requirements, and it will be difficult to integrate them into a cohesive program (Almaiah et al., 2020). The fourth challenge is the cost of the training program. It may be expensive to purchase specific tools and platforms, and this will increase the overall cost of the training program.

The solution to the challenges mentioned above is to find ways to overcome them. For example, the school could purchase computers that are suitable for using YouTube, or they could create a schedule that allows for more time to complete the training program. Additionally, the school could coordinate different training programs so that they are integrated into a cohesive program. Finally, the school could reduce the cost of the training program by using less expensive tools and platforms.

  1. Conclusion

The results of the study have shown a deficit of knowledge on how to use technology to collaborate at UWTSD.  The study found that collaboration at the school and within the surrounding community through the technology has not been successful. Therefore, the researchers concluded that there is need for a training program on how to use technology to collaborate at UWTSD. To ensure that the training program is successful, the team suggested several strategies to guide students and educators in the use of technology for collaboration. Additionally, the team recommended that the school purchase specific tools and platforms to make collaboration easier. Lastly, the team recommended that there be a schedule for training that would allow for integration of different training programs. These strategies will help to overcome the deficit of knowledge on how to use technology to collaborate at UWTSD and create a successful program.
